Revenue Optimisation
Doubling your average conversion rate means doubling your store's revenue
Increase conversion rates and average order values
This service is for you if your website gets healthy visitor levels and you're happy with how it looks, but you want to increase revenue from existing visitors.
To increase revenue I focus on increasing conversion rates (encouraging a higher percentage of visitors to purchase) and increasing average order values (encouraging those who purchase to spend a bit more). Your Analytics data for past conversion rates and average order values will help to figure out where the biggest opportunities are.
If your sales are low because your site isn't getting sufficient visitors then consider SEO instead.
Conversion Rates
Increasing conversion rates focuses on four key areas:
The First Impression
If your website looks great people trust your brand and are more likely to buy
Improving the attractiveness and consistency of a website increases the feeling of trust that visitors have in your brand. Good design is important but so is attention to detail. A broken link or a block of text that isn't aligned properly can erode trust. People ultimately draw conclusions about the quality of your products and service based on the quality of your website.
Product Visibility
Ensure customers see and can find products they want
It's important that visitors see products of interest as soon as they "walk in" to your online store, just like with a physical store. Making products easy to find as well as suggesting other products they may not have considered helps to increase sales.
Decision Confidence
If customers still have unanswered questions they hold back
It's important there is enough product information and to ensure all a customer's potential questions are answered to make them feel confident about buying.
Just a product description isn't enough. Buyers need supporting product information like size charts, specifications, customer reviews, warranty information and delivery timescales too.
Shipping Costs
The #1 cause of abandoned carts is "shipping cost shock"
Shipping cost is a common issue - if a customer can get free shipping from a competitor's site then you need to offer it too. Even if you don't offer free shipping the shipping cost should be minimal and not come as a surprise. People see value in the product but not in the shipping, so it's usually better to increase product prices and discount the shipping.
Average Order Values
There are two effective ways to increase average order values:
Add-On Products
Get customers to buy additional items
Suggesting relevant add-on products, allowing them to add multiple products to cart with one click, and giving them incentives to add extra products (like a discount or free shipping) can help to increase the average number of items per order.
Product Upgrades
Get customers to buy more expensive items instead
Suggesting an alternative product that's slightly more expensive AND making it obvious why the higher-priced option is better can encourage people to upgrade.
